ringing ceremonies to grieve and protest the deaths of Iraqis, as well as the

justifiably made last week about the American death toll in <?xml:namespace
prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"
/><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Iraq</st1:place></st1:country-region> reaching 2000.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>But little is said in this country about
the number of Iraqis killed since the occupation of <st1:country-region
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Iraq</st1:place></st1:country-region> began three
years ago.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>This month marks the
first anniversary of a report issued by the British Lancet - one of the
world’s most respected medical journals – which estimated the Iraqi death toll
to be 100,000.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>To commemorate this
anniversary and bring attention to the cost paid by the Iraqi people, Voices for
Creative Nonviolence and Justice Not Vengeance call for a bell ringing ceremony
to take place in communities throughout the nation.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Such a service - during which a
bell will be rung 1000 times - will take place in <st1:City
w:st="on">Placerville</st1:City>, on Wednesday, November 2<SUP>nd</SUP> at 5:15
pm at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">County</st1:PlaceType>
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Courthouse</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>This day being the Mexican, “Day of the
Dead,” the ceremony will not only honor the Iraqi victims of the occupation, but
the deaths as well of the 2000 and counting American service people.<SPAN

parading of signs or speeches.<SPAN
