The idea is being championed by the nonprofit Sustainable Fairfax, which is also trying to get the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce to contribute $4,000. The main reason for creating the local currency is to promote the local economy. The Fairfax Town Council this week made some changes in its new plan to outsource the collection of business license fees after local merchants complained. The job of collecting the fees was recently assigned to Fresno-based Muni Services, which has a processing center in Alabama. Fairfax business owners expressed concern about not keeping the money local to directly benefit the town. They also objected to divulging their Social Security numbers to Muni Services. Businesses may now pay their license fees directly to the town, in person at Town Hall or by mail at 142 Bolinas Road, Fairfax 94930. Businesses will not be required to divulge their Social Security or employer identification numbers. And no delinquent penalties will be assessed until after March 15, instead of Feb. 16, as stated on the business license that was mailed by Muni Services. All businesses will, however, have to continue paying a $25 processing fee, which covers the cost of hiring Muni Services, said Town Manager Michael Rock. He said the cost of hiring a local employee to do the work would have been higher. http://www.marinij.com/marinnews/ci_17295614 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Peace Novato Meetings and Crane Folding In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <8CD95DDB79F0908-B40-6D492@Webmail-d107.sysops.aol.com> -----Original Message----- From: Peace Novato Sent: Tue, Feb 8, 2011 11:03 am Subject: Peace Novato Meetings and Crane Folding Peace Friends, On the Fourth of July this year, we plan to march with memorial cranes from both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, so we have LOTS of folding to do to get caught up with soldier deaths in Afghanistan. We?ll be meeting and folding at Don?s (6 Angelica Court) this Wednesday (tomorrow) Feb. 9, from 7:30 to 9 pm. Call or email for directions. With adding the cranes folded for the American Servicepersons killed in Afghanistan (1472 to date) to the cranes folded for those killed in Iraq (4436) we may be approaching 6,000 (That's over 1500 more than last year!) cranes by July 4th. That means we'll need AT LEAST 8 more people than last year to volunteer for the parade. Please consider keeping the 4th of July open to help show our patriotism in Novato. And, invite your friends to come out too. In spite of the recent weather here in Novato, we are still on our winter vigil schedule. We'll have our "3rd Friday" monthly vigil next week, February 18, in front of City Hall, 901 Sherman at Delong. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) recently suggested that Congress doesn't have enough time to consider reforms this year. That was the excuse for last year's Patriot Act reauthorization. Members of Congress had suggested that they would use 2010 to really examine the effects of the USA Patriot Act and return to it in early 2011 ready to make much-needed changes. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2670229/posts _______________________________________________ gpca-ccwg mailing list gpca-ccwg at cagreens.org http://lists.cagreens.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/gpca-ccwg -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
