The problem is, there are too few Democrats that value people, whatever their financial class, over the new toxic form of capitalism. Coupled with this is the problem of our antiquated two-party, winner- take-all political system that has poisoned our democracy, our civil rights, and our safety net for all the people. I wish you well, as I believe that YOU do what you can against the entrenchment in Washington, D.C., but I hold little hope for those unfortunate people in these brutal times who find themselves outside the privileged financial class. Bush: Guide Message-ID: <20060911041449.66109.qmail@web52208.mail.yahoo.com> Please send as far and wide as possible. Thanks, Robert Sterling Editor, The Konformist http://www.konformist.com The Impeachment of George W. Bush: A Practical Guide for Concerned Citizens (Paperback) By Elizabeth Holtzman, Cynthia L. Cooper BUZZFLASH REVIEWS "No one is better placed or qualified to call for the impeachment of George W. Bush than Elizabeth Holtzman. She is a former Congresswoman and Brooklyn District Attorney who was a vital member of the House Judiciary Committee during the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. In The Impeachment of George W. Bush, Holtzman and her coauthor, acclaimed journalist Cynthia L. Cooper, have written a clear, lucid and damning legal brief that reveals that the 43rd President of the United States of America has committed high crimes and misdemeanors. This book focuses on four articles of impeachment: The Offense of Wiretapping Surveillance in Defiance of the Law; the Offence of Lying and Inducing America to Support a War; The Offense of Reckless Indifference to the Lives and Welfare of American Troops; The Offense of Torture in Violation of U.S. Laws and Treaties. It also provides an invaluable guide to how citizens can get involved in campaigning for impeachment, as well as an important historical analysis of impeachments past. The publication of this book is a summons to action in this process." BuzzFlash has stopped counting the number of Bush impeachment books that we have carried. And remember, it has to be a joint impeachment with Cheney. Otherwise, were it ever to happen, Cheney would become President! In any case, all of this is a dream unless the Democrats are able to bring down the Rove/Bush/Cheney terror frightfest "show of shows," coming now to a television set in homes across America. What it has come down to is the truth and reality vs. a third-time around Hollywood mini-series of fear. Impeachment will only become even a remote possiblity if the Democrats regain control of the House. And to do that, we have to convince the majority of Americans that the Bush Administration is the Fantasy Island version of government -- and a peril to both our national security and our Constitution. Elizabeth Holtzman is the youngest woman ever elected to the US Congress and won national attention for her role on the House Judiciary Committee during Watergate. She was subsequently elected Districts Attorney of Kings County (Brooklyn). A Harvard Law School graduate, she is a practicing lawyer with a firm in New York City. Cynthia L. Cooper, a former practicing lawyer, is a journalist and author in New York. Her articles have appeared in The Nation, American Bar Association, Marie Claire and many others. She lives in New York City. ``````````` If you are interested in a free subscription to The Konformist Newswire, please visit: http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/konformist JamBoi Jammy The Sacred Cows Slayer "Live humbly, laugh often and love unconditionally" (anon) http://dailyJam.blogspot.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Message-ID: <20060912081354.63430.qmail@web52215.mail.yahoo.com> Check out this awesome recent GPUS press release that features some really juicy comments by our very own candidate Carol Brouillet for congress! A Million Votes for Peace! Drew http://gp.org/press/pr_2006_08_24.shtml Press Release Democrats and Republicans Downplay Health Care Crisis Green Party of the United States www.gp.org Thursday, August 24, 2006 Contacts: Scott McLarty, Media Coordinator, 202-518-5624, mclarty at greens.org Starlene Rankin, Media Coordinator, 916-995-3805, starlene at greens.org Green candidates call single-payer national health insurance as the lone solution to 45 million Americans without coverage WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green candidates across the U.S. have made health care for all a top campaign issue, demanding single-payer national health insurance, and accusing Democrats and Republicans alike of sweeping the health care crisis under the rug while accepting major insurance company contributions. "Greens are calling health care a national emergency, while many Democratic and Republican candidates are talking about it as little as possible," said Bob Levis, Wisconsin Green candidate for the U.S. House (5th District) . Mr. Levis is running against incumbent F. James Sensenbrenner, who owns over three million in pharmaceutical stock and has voted against reforms such as the patients' bill of rights. "More than 45 million Americans, including 9 million children, have no health coverage. Millions of other Americans have inadequate coverage. The U.S. leads in medical technology, but the worst access to health care among industrial nations." "The only solution to the crisis is single-payer national health insurance, which will cover every American, regardless of age, income, residence, or prior medical condition, with quality coverage," added Mr. Levis. "Single-payer national health insurance will cost working Americans far less than they now pay for private coverage. Single-payer also takes the burden off businesses to provide health coverage for employees, and creates a lot less paperwork and aggravation for hospitals, physicians, and other health professionals." "Many people believe that 'government inefficiency' would make national health insurance more expensive than private insurance, when the facts indicate the opposite," said Art Myatt, Michigan Green candidate for the U.S. House (12th District). "Medicare delivers 98 cents to health care providers out of every dollar of Medicare income. The private insurance industry does well to deliver 70 cents. National health insurance would actually lower the total amount that society spends on health care." Greens note that the Democratic Party removed national health insurance from its national platform during the Clinton-Gore Administration. President Clinton introduced a complex 'managed care' plan, which would have placed coverage under the control of a few giant insurance firms. Even though the Clinton plan failed, most Democrats continue to favor reforms that leave powerful HMO and insurance corporations in control of health care. None of these plans will solve the health care crisis, say Greens, because HMO and insurance corporations are the root of the problem -- they don't want to cover Americans who are old or poor or have prior medical conditions that may interfere with profits. "While Greens accept no corporate contributions, Democratic and Republican politicians receive millions from corporate health lobbies that don't want single-payer national health insurance," said Carol Brouillet, Green congressional candidate in California's 14th District . "Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) is the top 2006 recipient in Congress of contributions from the insurance industry, according to the Center for Responsive Politics . Both Democrats and Republicans are listed among the top recipients of money from the insurance and pharmaceutical industry." (Green candidate Howie Hawkins is challenging Sen. Clinton for her Senate seat .) One exception among Democrats is Rep. John Conyers (Mich.), who each year introduces legislation for single-payer national health insurance in the U.S. House. The Green Party has consistently supported the Conyers bills. Corporate pharmaceutical lobbies also made sure that Congress passed its prescription drug 'reform' bill in 2003 -- which benefited drug companies but did little to help older Americans who need their prescription medicines. Under single-payer, all seniors will have full access to their prescription medicines at zero or minimal cost. Some states, such as California, have been considering state-wide single-payer plans. Greens in these states have supported such proposals. The chief obstacles have been Democratic and Republican politicians who, under the influence of corporate lobbies, work to obstruct single-payer, and advertising by HMOs and insurance companies that misleads the public. In Tennessee, Green gubernatorial candidate Howard Switzer is challenging incumbent Phil Bredesen (D), who has been dismantling one of the nation's few state provided health care systems, dropping 330,000 (many of them in need of care) from TennCare's rolls during the past year. Mr. Switzer's campaign slogan is "Healthcare for All." "Americans will win universal coverage and quality health care under a single-payer plan when voters elect candidates who are on the side of Americans who need health care, not on the side of corporate lobbies," said Jeff Kravitz, Green candidate for the U.S. House in California's 5th District . "The health care crisis and the demand for single-payer national health insurance are at the top of the list of reasons why America needs the Green Party." ESHOO. Mr. Speaker, today we join together to honor the nearly 3,000 people who perished in the heinous attacks on our country five years ago. The images of that day remain vivid in our minds, as do the emotions we all felt ? the shock, the grief ? as we realized that a handful of terrorists plotting halfway around the world were capable of destroying so many innocent lives on American soil. September 11, 2001, shattered the illusion that our homeland would always provide safe sanctuary from those who would do us harm. Five years later, we also remember how the events of September 11 brought our country together. As we did after Pearl Harbor, America showed its true colors. After the twin towers fell, we put aside our political differences to unite behind a pledge to make our country safer and to track down and punish those responsible for the attacks. With the world on our side, we had a unique opportunity to marshal our vast resources to destroy the al Qaeda terrorist network for good. We made a good start. At home, we moved quickly to tighten airport security and to reorganize our homeland defenses and intelligence infrastructure to close gaps that enabled the terrorists to use our own commercial airliners as weapons against us. Overseas, working with our allies, our military took the fight to al Qaeda and the Taliban, who had provided safe harbor to the terrorists and their training camps in Afghanistan for far too long. Today, however, it is clear that we have failed to finish the job we needed to do. Instead of committing our forces to pursuing al Qaeda?s leaders ? including Osama bin Laden, who is still at large ? we embarked on an unnecessary war of choice in Iraq that has squandered our resources and the world?s goodwill without making us measurably safer. Domestically, we?ve spent billions to secure our airports, but we?ve neglected the security of our ports and the cyber security of our technological infrastructure and communications networks. Chronic underfunding and lax security standards have left our nation?s ports and cargo containers a soft underbelly, and the President?s ongoing failure to appoint an Assistant Homeland Security Secretary for Cyber Security has created a leadership void in this critical sector, leaving us vulnerable to a telecom disaster on the scale of an "electronic Pearl Harbor." It?s not too late to change course to do what must be done to prevail in the real war against terrorism. We must recommit to finishing the job in Afghanistan, to fully funding our counterterrorism intelligence programs at home and abroad, to increasing the size of our Special Forces, to improving our human intelligence capability and to securing nuclear materials around the world. Only then will we truly be able to say that we have fully honored those who lost their lives on September 11. -- "I find I have a great lot to learn ? or unlearn. I seem to know far too much and this knowledge obscures the really significant facts, but I am getting on." -- Charles Rennie Mackintosh Wesley C. GreenCommons is becoming quite a useful web site for us Greens! I urge everyone to check it out! The following was a rally that the Byron DeLear campaign held and this note gives the story in a bit more detail (in english ;-) ) about the Santos Reyes case. Camejo and others have sent a letter to the CA Gov. to request pardon. A Million Votes for Peace! -------------------------- Santos Reyes Press Conference and Rally -- 9:30am, Weds. 9/13 A press conference and rally will take place in front of the U.S. District Court @ 9:30 AM: 312 N. Spring St. Los Angeles, CA PLEASE JOIN US AND DISTRIBUTE WIDELY!- Santos Reyes has served 6 years of a 26-yrs. to life sentence for taking a DMV test for his cousin. The Three Strikes Law needs to be abolished! Peter Camejo will be joined by Green Party candidates Byron De Lear and Donna Warren, and FACTS advocate as well as Geri Silva, director of FACTS (Families Against California Three Strikes). Matt Gonzalez is serving as an advisor on the case and may be at the rally as well. Santos Reyes, an undocumented Mexican worker, has served six years of a 26-year-to-life sentence in Folsom State Prison under California's Three Strikes law. The act committed by Santos Reyes that sent him to prison would normally have been prosecuted as a violation of California Vehicle Code: Section 20, a misdemeanor (which states that "It is unlawful to use a false or fictitious name or knowingly conceal any material fact in any document filed with the DMV"), which carries a maximum sentence of one year and could not have been used as a "third" strike. However, the prosecutor elected to charge Santos Reyes with a more serious offense of perjury, a violation of Penal Code Section 118 (a) a felony, that could triggered the Three Strikes sentencing. Santos' two priors strikes were a residential burglary as a 17 year-old minor (he and another youth stole a radio after visiting a house without a forced entry) and an armed robbery alleging the use of a knife committed when he was 23 years old (a charge Santos Reyes maintains he is completely innocent of) Neither of these offenses occurred within the last twenty years. The Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals has granted Santos Reyes a hearing to determine whether he should have been punished under the Three Strikes law since Santos sought only to provide for his family as a roofer by seeking to obtain a driver's license, an event totally disconnected from the previous issues and one created by peculiar and unjust juridical circumstances; and In no other country in the world has any individual been sentenced to such a prison term for falsifying a name on a government form. _____________________________________________ --- JamBoi wrote: > Yes, at the General Assembly, Peter Camejo was very excited about how > he and other Greens had lead the way at the 'Congresso Latino' on > creating a unified movement to free Santos Reyes (translated to Holy > Kings in the following crude mechanical translation to english) who > had > been jailed for life 6 years ago based on him having cheated on the > DMV > test (a misdemeanor that somehow they upgraded to perjury, a felony > and > called that the 3rd strike): http://tinyurl.com/lg6n5 > > Here's the story in english from the SF Chron: > http://tinyurl.com/eocf6 > > BTW, We promptly endorsed the letter to the Gov. requesting > commutation > of the sentence when he asked! > > A Million Votes for Peace! > > Drew > > --- Jim Doyle wrote: > > > Spanish language of course. > > url > > http://www.laopinion.com/primerapagina/?rkey=00000000000000502180 > > > > At a press conference with relatives of a person caught in 3 > strikes > > for falsifying something at the dmv. > > > > _______________________________________________ > > sosfbay-discuss mailing list > > sosfbay-discuss at cagreens.org > > http://lists.cagreens.org/mailman/listinfo/sosfbay-discuss > > > > > JamBoi > Jammy The Sacred Cow Slayer > > "Live humbly, laugh often and love unconditionally" (anon) > http://dailyJam.blogspot.com > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam? In some states (I think including CA) if the affiliated state Green Party doesn't run a nominated presidential candidate (ie. not just an 'endorsed' candidate) or in some cases a gubnatorial, and in others a statewide candidate (the rules are different in each state) then the the party loses ballot access. This can mean that the party then has to acquire a large number of signatures. This can even be a very unreasonably large number of signatures in just a few weeks time such as in Pennsylvania where The Duopoly requires third parties to come up with 67,000 validated signatures (translate this as 100,000 signatures after The Duopoly lawyers finish challenging every single signature as a further way to harrass the third party). Ballot access is a precious commodity that empowers a third party to function and be viable. The Green Party of TX was not able to achieve ballot access this year despite a full slate of candidates and enthusiastic organization. Think of how devastating this is for the Green Party's 2008 prospects! We Greens must pay careful attention to maintaining and expanding our ballot access as we mature our party and move towards becoming a potent political player in the heart of The Empire. We can impact the entire world for the good by dotting our i's and crossing our t's to make certain we have ballot access in all 50 states and serious challenger to The Duopoly parties. In many races, Greens are now battling exclusion from candidates' debates. In Pennsylvania, Greens have faced the most dramatic obstruction, as a result of patently unfair ballot access rules (2,000 petition signatures required for Democrats and Republicans; 67,000 for other parties) and a lawsuit filed by Democrats seeking to disqualify many of the 95,000 signatures submitted by Marakay Rogers (running for Governor ), Christina Valente (for Lieutenant Governor ), and Carl Romanelli (for U.S. Senate ). Because defending their petitions would cost tens of thousands of dollars and the candidates risk being bankrupted by a judgment for the challengers' attorneys' fees and costs, Ms. Rogers and Ms. Valente have withdrawn their petitions; Mr. Romanelli has vowed to fight the challenge and is now protesting his exclusion from a September 3 senatorial candidates' debate to be broadcast on MSNBC's 'Meet the Press.' "Pennsylvania's grossly unfair ballot access laws, passed by Democrats and Republicans, should be considered a conspiracy against voters, limiting their choices on the ballot. Equally outrageous are the tactics that Pennsylvania Democrats are using to bar Greens, through legal and financial intimidation -- proving that Democratic politicians are just as willing as Republicans to rig the ballot box," said Marakay Rogers. The Green Party currently has 31 state ballot lines (including the District of Columbia). In January, 2006, the Green Party had 17 state ballot lines. Arkansas Secretary of State Charlie Daniels certified the Green Party as a recognized political party in Arkansas after an August 23, 2006 ruling by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas ordered the inclusion of Greens. Arkansas Greens have nominated six candidates for statewide races, including Jim Lendall, former Democratic State Representative, for Governor. The nominees must file their certificates of nomination with the Secretary of State's office by September 8 to appear on the November ballot. http://www.jimlendall2006.com http://www.arkgreens.org California Gubernatorial candidate Peter Camejo is seeking inclusion despite the League of Women Voters decision to restrict the debates to candidates who receive over 10% in the polls. When Mr. Camejo participated in a televised debate in the 2003 election, he was widely perceived as the winner, according to informal polls of media outlets and viewers. The Camejo campaign has filed a complaint with the Fair Political Practices Commission. http://www.votecamejo.com http://www.cagreens.org Illinois The Illinois State Board of Elections ruled unanimously on August 31 to place the Green Party state slate in the November general election, after a vigorous attempt by Illinois Democrats to have Green candidates' ballot petitions invalidated in order to keep them off the state ballot. Illinois Green candidates Rich Whitney, running for Governor, and Julie Samuels, for Lieutenant Governor, were certified on September 1. Greens were required to to collect 25,000 signatures in just 90 days -- five times the number of signatures that Democratic and Republican candidates had to collect -- to qualify for the ballot. Greens collected over 39,000. Greens were then forced to hire a ballot defense coordinator and pay for legal services to defend their petitions after Illinois Democrats used their staffing and monetary advantage to challenge the petitions before the State Board. Greens are now attempting to persuade the Illinois Radio Network to reverse its decision excluding Mr. Whitney from its October 2 debate. http://www.whitneyforgov.org http://www.ilgp.org Nebraska The Nebraska Green Party was initially denied ballot access for its statewide candidates by the Secretary of State. After several weeks of delay involving intense discussions with Greens, the ACLU and legislators, Greens were granted ballot access for statewide constitutional offices, with Green candidates Steve Larrick for State Auditor and Doug Paterson for Secretary of State on the ballot on November 7. http://www.nebraskagreens.org New York On August 22, Malachy McCourt, candidate for Governor, and other New York Green candidates delivered petitions to the Board of Elections in Albany to place them on the November 7 ballot. The campaigns submitted 30,000 signatures, double the required 15,000 needed -- demonstrating that voters want a choice when they go to the polls, a choice that includes candidates who support peace, abolition of the death penalty, bringing home the New York National Guard, and health care for all. The members of the Green Party's New York Peace Slate include Mr. McCourt for Governor; Alison Duncan for Lt. Governor; Howie Hawkins for U.S. Senate; Attorney General candidate Rachel Treichler; and State Comptroller candidate Julia Willebrand. The party must achieve 50,000 votes in the Governor's race to regain automatic ballot status. New York Greens fell slightly short of the 50,000 votes for Governor in 2002 to maintain ballot status, although Attorney General candidate Mary Jo Long exceeded the 50,000. New York Green ballot-qualified candidates are currently negotiating with the League of Women Voters of New York for inclusion in debates for the offices of U.S. Senator from New York, Governor, and Attorney General. http://www.malachyforgovernor.com http://www.alisonduncan.org http://www.hawkinsforsenate.org http://www.voterachel.org http://www.juliaforcomptroller.org http://www.gpnys.org Ohio Green gubernatorial candidate Bob Fitrakis has joined a Libertarian and a write-in to fight their exclusion from four debates, from which the Democrats and Republicans are barring all other candidates. Mr. Fitrakis and the other two candidates will be in Youngstown on September 5 for the first of the debates, and are also planning to hold their own debates in Toledo, Dayton, and Akron (which Democrats and Republicans have omitted from the debate schedule). Mr. Fitrakis will invite the Democrats and Republicans to attend the 'third party' debates, which will be co-sponsored by Common Cause. http://www.bobforohio.com http://www.ohiogreens.org Wisconsin Wisconsin Greens are protesting a decision by the We the People consortium (Wisconsin State Journal, WISC-TV, Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Television, Wood Communications, WisPolitics.com, along with corporate and interest group sponsors) to bar third party candidates, including gubernatorial candidate Nelson Eisman, from candidates' debates according to arbitrary poll-based and fundraising criteria. The League of Women Voters (which sponsored debates in years past), the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and Common Cause in Wisconsin have joined Greens in the call for Mr. Eisman's inclusion. http://www.voteEisman.org http://www.wisconsingreenparty.org MORE INFORMATION Green Party of the United States http://www.gp.org 1700 Connecticut Avenue NW, Suite 404 Washington, DC 20009. 202-319-7191, 866-41GREEN Fax 202-319-7193 Green campaign listings, news, photos, and web sites www.gp.org/2006elections Database of 2006 Green candidates www.greens.org/elections Video clips of Green candidates www.gp.org/2006elections/media.shtml Green Party News Center www.gp.org/newscenter.shtml JamBoi Jammy The Sacred Cow Slayer "Live humbly, laugh often and love unconditionally" (anon) http://dailyJam.blogspot.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The Historic Adobe Building on Moffett Boulevard and Central Expressway is where the event will be held." From there on, and maybe sooner, your conversation will probably be more spontaneous, depending on how the person responds. You could end something like this, "It will (or 'would') be good seeing you there. Later, if you have any questions, just call Fred at 650-691-1215. If he's away, leave your name and phone number, and he'll call you back as soon as possible." We could also offer to mail a flyer if there was enough advance time and if it seemed appropriate. SEN is an informal network of 150+ U.S. organizations and businesses plus an approximately equal number of individual activisits, including members of government and academia, who wish to advocate a national energy policy that aggressively promotes energy efficiency and renewable energy as strategies for dramatically reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, phasing out nuclear power, and ending energy imports. More specifically, SEN believes that the goals of the nation's energy policy should be to: 1.) promote energy-saving technologies in all sectors of the economy - including energy-efficient buildings, appliances, lighting, vehicles, and industrial processes as well as co-generation, district energy, and fuel cells; 2.) promote environmentally-responsible applications of the cross-section of renewable energy technologies including biofuels, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar, wind, and renewably-based hydrogen; 3.) reduce greenhouse gas emissions to a level consistent with a world-wide goal of global climate stabilization (e.g., curbing U.S. CO2 emissions by 60-80% from current levels by no later than mid-century); 4.) eliminate U.S. energy imports (i.e., oil and natural gas - are now 58% and 15% respectively), while reducing overall use of oil, coal, and natural gas; and 5.) phase out the current generation of nuclear power and not construct new reactors in their place. The Sustainable Energy Network will regularly prepare proposed letters to Members of Congress, the Administration, and other decision-makers on these issues. Draft letters will be circulated to members of the network for their information and possible sign-on. Finalized letters will be sent under the names of the signing organizations and individuals only. The Sustainable Energy Network will also prepare periodic written commentaries and op-eds on these issues. Only the names of those signing will be associated with any published materials. No names of members of the Sustainable Energy Network will be used on any letters, news releases, op-eds or other materials issued by SEN unless permission has been granted for a specific release or statement. All members of the Sustainable Energy Network will receive copies of draft and finalized letters and op-eds as well as a periodic update of the contact information for members of the network. Periodic news stories will also be circulated to members of the network. You send them a dollar to validate your account, and after that you have to log in every three months (pulling your email doesn't count) to keep the account alive. For $35 one time you get a more powerful account. Either account comes with a mailbox you can get at through your email program or their Web-mail, a shell on a big unix cluster, and Web hosting. When I got home from taking them back to the dayworker center there was a message on my message machine from someone who didn't leave a name ragging on "people that would hire North Koreans for the price of a loaf of bread and steal jobs from Americans." It's the only message like it I've ever gotten, and it was QUITE a coincidence. I felt very unclean after listening to that message. I've never done that before, and I don't want to do it again. It was easy, convienient, and they worked hard, but now I'm conflicted. I didn't think of the idea, but I went along with it because I needed to get the mailing out of my hair and the phone wasn't ringing enough to make it happen with volunteers. I mean, volunteers could get it done next week sometime, but there is no chance that the San Jose Greens would hear about the Oct. 3rd event before it happened. Message-ID: <451585BA.8020802@earthlink.net> Hi, Tian Harter is requesting the endorsement of the GPSCC for his campaign for Mountain View City Council. Normally endorsements would be handled at our regular monthly meeting. But Tian informs me that the state will decide Monday (I presume Monday evening) which candidates will receive money from the state. And the state does not give money to candidates who are not endorsed by the relevant county or counties. The GPSCC County Council has made decisions before on urgent matters that can not wait until the monthly meeting. The current County Council (Jim Doyle and I) are willing to endorse Tian. So if you have an opinion on this (for / against / other), please let Jim Doyle and I know ASAP. It needs to be said that on some of these calenders I'm not certain if it will be published because we're submitting with less than 4 weeks lead time. We can beat ourselves up for that, but I don't see the need to because I think we'll get plenty o' coverage to fill the place, get media attention and make it a great event! There are a number of other outlets I've been researching and hope to get posted to in the next few days, most especially including the Palo Alto Daily and the Los Gatos Daily News, (both of which are owned by the same company and whose web site doesn't provide an easy way to submit these kinds of things, but I'm working on it), KKUP, GPCA, GP Alameda and many others. Please also provide the platters, containers and serving utensils. Also, if you can, please bring the buffet items so they can be placed on the table by 6:45 pm. Fred and I will bring coffee, teas, fruit juices, soda, water and ice. We will also bring table cloths, napkins, 5" or 6" paper or plastic plates, cups and tumblers. If you could let me know what you plan to bring by Six O'Clock PM on SUNDAY, October 1, it will give me enough time to purchase needed items before Tuesday. Any further suggestions will be welcome. I'll drop in there today to get it cleared. I doubt there will be a problem. Looking forward to the flyer. Fred I said I could do a half-sheet flyer if someone fed me the info. Message-ID: <451AF816.4080308@freeshell.org> Here's a quick query for you folks with free opinions: How valuable would it be to have a video taped record of the GPCA speakers on Oct 3? Would we, the GPSCC, or the GPCA have a good enough reason to ask Roy Harrison to tape the speakers part of the event? (If he does the work, we would, in the least, pay any of his costs.) Please respond to this with some brief pros and/or cons that would help in making a decision on whether or not to ask Roy to record the event, or part of the event. I'll forward this to votecameo at topica.com and info at camejo.com. Let's get this event taped and get it up on the web! Let's get clips from it up on YouTube! That's a fantastic guerilla marketing method that is all the rage today. Its also a way to record and make this historic event available to Greens and voters all over the state even though they can't make it next Tuesday. Let's do it! A Million Votes for Peace! The manager of the S.C. County Social Services Center across from the Adobe Building told me that we are welcome to use the parking lot. Moffett is a very wide street, probably 54 feet wide. It is advisable to walk to the Central Expressway crosswalk rather than jaywalking across the middle of the block. We want everybody attending to be alive and conscious, and able to vote in November. So watch your step. Father Fred, I said I could do a half-sheet flyer if someone fed me the info. I see that Jim D has gathered most of what I need so I can get started on it. Any help would be appreciated- since you know and are in communication with most of these candidates- you can do what you want with the advisory to lure them to the event (aside from saying we'll all be running around naked.) I do have a media list and a slow fax machine- I was planning on spending hours faxing- but if you could do a blast that would be great. Unfortunately, it is Friday- I meant to get this out sooner- but I'm printing the new bills and trying to finalize a big 9-11 event for Oct 27th which will be another hook to get my issue legitimately aired in the press. Let me know if you want to send this out- or a cherried up version- so that we avoid redundancy of efforts. Green Party Candidates Gather to Challenge Torture, War, Lies, to Revive Democracy http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2006/09/28/18315423.php Text: Tuesday, October 3, 2006, from 6:45 pm to 9:30 pm. at the Historic Adobe House, 157 Moffett Boulevard, in Mountain View, the Green Party of Santa Clara County is sponsoring a "Meet and Greet the Candidates" forum with state, national and local candidates. The Green Party which champions social justice, grassroots democracy, peace has come out strongly against the PATRIOT Act, torture, and in favor of impeachment, immigrants rights, electoral reform, and an end to War on Iraq. The candidates who will be speaking include- Todd Chretien for U.S. Senator, Peter Miguel Camejo for Governor, Forrest Hill for Secretary of State, Methul Thakker for Treasurer, Michael Wyman for Attorney General, Laura Wells for Controller, Larry Cafiero for Insurance Commissioner, Carol Brouillet for the 14th District U.S. House of Representatives, Tian Harter for the Mountain View City Council (nonpartisan). Local Green Party congressional candidate (oops- forgot to include my name) said: "Today, Congress failed in its duty to protect the Constitution, the American people, any pretense of justice or moral high ground, by passing a law denying habeas corpus to "terror suspects," especially in light the fact that the U.S. government has employed, trained, and assisted terrorists for years, including Bin Laden, and top Al Qaeda operative, Mohammed the American, who was involved with the '93 WTC bombing, the African Embassy bombings, and 9/11. 'Fighting terrorism' is a mask for extending U.S. power abroad and curtailing our liberties at home. We must rein in the terrorists, occupying the White House, who are the real threat to our liberties, and a threat to all those who stand in the path of their global domination project." A reception begins at 6:45 pm., at 7:30 the candidates will speak. From 9 pm to 9:30 pm, there will be Q&A and Discussion. The Mountain View H istoric Adobe Building, is on the northeast corner of Moffett Blvd. and Central Expressway - directly across from the Mountain View CalTrain and VTA Light Rail Station. Parking is available in the parking lot across Moffett, and along the east side of Moffett Blvd. http://cagreens.org/sclara/ If anyone would like to offer constructive criticisms, suggestions, another quote- please let me know- and I'll probably go ahead with sending out an advisory now and let Cres follow up with a press release on Monday.
