Bruce Karney, whom you may remember was Mountain View's first Green
candidate for City Council,
is doing something again. His latest project is selling solar systems
through a buying cooperative,
and as you can see from his email following, the project is going quite
well.

 >The sign-up period for residential customers ended yesterday, and the
results are outstanding:
 >113 households and 345 kW of solar. The results are approximately
double the project's
 >original goal of getting enough households signed up to produce 175 kW.
 >
 >In addition, as a result of the project the amount of residential
solar panels installed in
 >Mountain View will more than double.
 >
 >By way of comparison, this is about 3/4 the size of Microsoft's solar
project and 22% as much
 >as Google is bringing on line.
 >
 >The aggregate savings to participants compared to "standard prices" is
$690,000.
 >The reduction in carbon dioxide emissions over the life of the panels
will be about 5,300 tons,
 >which is about the same as taking 1000 automobiles off the road for a
year.
 > >At Eric Anderson's request, I will be making a presentation about
the results at the EPC
 >meeting tomorrow at approximately 7:30 pm. I hope you will be able to
attend or tune into
 >the broadcast on KMVT.
 >
 >The sign-up period for commercial, governmental, and non-profit
customers extends to May 31.
 >
 >Cheers,
 >Bruce
