I found this to be a very interesting article.

It's about business promotion of consumerism, beginning
almost 100 years ago.  Apparently business leaders were
concerned that if people did not consume enough, then
they would not need to work as many hours, and that would
lead to mischief.

It's about attempts at a 30 hour work week. Kellogg had
a 30 hour work week for decades.

It's about the implications for democracy of shorter vs.
longer work week.
