I just received this. It conflicts with the MLK Train... but I
thought I should pass it on...
Dear Comrades and Friends:
We urgently need your endorsement of the Justice for Oscar Grant
March and Rally, which will be held in West Oakland on January, 19,
2009 -- Martin Luther King Day. [See attached leaflet].
Here are the endorsers we have now: African People's Socialist Party,
Boots Riley of The Coup, The Commemorator Newspaper, Haiti Action
Network, International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement, Million
Worker March Movement, The Organizer Newspaper.
All endorsements should be sent asap to <cargohook at ilwu19casuals.net>.
Also, we need to raise some money to produce these rally leaflets in
time for the big rally the following Wednesday. Folks can contact me
for information about where to send financial donations for the
leaflets. My cell number is 510-590-7985.
This is very important, because this is an independent initiative to
give the hip-hop generation a voice in this crisis situation. The
Black Democrats and, as Brother Malcolm said, the "old Black
preachers" are now dominating this movement. They are seeking to gain
piecemeal concessions within the political structure, which means
they are preparing a situation in which justice will not be served,
and structural changes, even within the BART police, will become
impossible. We need a real united front, both locally and nationally,
to form now to spearhead a real fightback.
Now is our chance in Oakland. Our communities are at stake.
All the best.
In unity and struggle,
Brian W.
