B. Latina Coalition – January Newsletter_/_CIVIC ENGAGEMENT_/:

**_Santa Clara_****_ _****_County_****_ is looking to fill openings on 
two of its commissions_**_:_


1. _Commission on the Status of Women_: works with the Board of 
Supervisors and the Office of Women’s policy to promote affirmative 
action in eliminating sex discrimination in the areas of housing, 
employment, education, community services, and related fields. This 
appointment will fill the remainder of a 3-year term that expires on 
June 30, 2011.


2. _Senior Care Commission_: advises the Board of Supervisors on issues, 
legislation, services and programs that promote independence, good 
health and quality of life for persons 60 and over. This appointment 
will fill the remainder of a 3-year term that expires on June 30, 2010.

**APALI Community Leadership Program**

Made possible with support PG&E, Comcast, and the Institute for 
Community and Civic Engagement, the Asian Pacific American Leadership 
Institute (APALI) is pleased to announce that De Anza College's 3rd 
annual Community Civic Leadership Program will begin in January 2009. 
The 2009 Civic Leadership Program will bring together 20-25 individuals 
who are interested in increasing and elevating the level of civic 
participation, especially from the Latino and Asian American 
communities. The exciting themes include understanding and collaboration 
between the Latino American and Asian American communities, peer 
mentoring, and expanding our civic networks. Program will meet January 7 
to March 25, Wednesday evenings, with a light dinner, 6:00 to 9:30 PM.

Dear Friend of* Mujer a Mujer*:

Our 3rd Annual Mujer a Mujer Latina Leadership Conference is right 
around the corner - **Saturday, ***February 28***, 2009****.** We are 
expecting 300 participants at this all Spanish event.

There is still time to register, secure a booth for our resource and 
vendor fair and/or cosponsor the event.

We are also in need of volunteers - high school and college students are 
welcomed!
Volunteers do not need to speak Spanish.
