Here is a message from the candidate who spoke to us
at our July or August meeting, Akio Tanaka:

Dear Jim,
The KPFA board elections ends on October 15.
The station management scheduled a fund drive between 9/15 to 10/9,
which preempted the election events and coverage, so it is very
important to remind
people to vote and mail in their ballots.

I would appreciate it if you can forward the following message to people
in your sphere of influence.
Warm regards,
Aki

Dear Friends and Allies,

The balloting for the KPFA Local Station board will end on October 15.

Let your vote count. Please vote and mail in your ballots.

Currently the Concerned Listeners slate holds the majority on the KPFA
Local Station Board.
I am concerned that their support for concentrated management power and
their disrespect f
or the unpaid staff could turn KPFA into another mainstream radio
station and marginalize its
unique listener community.

The Independents for Community Radio (ICR) want to put the community
back in community radio;
they believe that programming decisions and other significant station
policies need to be made in a
‘fair, collaborative and respectful manner’.

I urge you to vote for the candidates endorsed by the 'Independents for
Community Radio'. T
he candidates are; Akio Tanaka, Henry Norr, Andrea Prichett, Rahman
Jamaal McCreadie,
Banafsheh Akhlaghi, Lara Kiswani, Adam Hudson, Evelyn Sanchez, Shara
Esbenshade,
Sasha Futran, and Ann Hallet.

Thank you,

Akio Tanaka
