Letter to the Milpitas Post

America was founded on ‘We the People’ and designed to serve the
interests of everyone equally. Yet the Occupy Movement has appeared and
spread because, for the majority of people (the 99%), the system is not
working. There is also a sense that this is a relatively recent
phenomenon – “we’re not trying to roll back the clock 100 years; just 30
years.”

The past thirty years includes the crazy economic policies of
Reaganomics (“trickle-down” tax cuts for the rich), Clintonomics (NAFTA
and WTO sucking our jobs overseas), and Bushonomics (add $6.4 trillion
to our nation's debt -- 44.7% of today's $14.3 trillion total).

Unfortunately, reversing those policies is unlikely while corporations
control our democratic processes. The super-failure of the
Congressional Super Committee that was supposed to solve our financial
problems is just the latest example of maintaining the status quo.

Resolutions, legislation and Constitutional Amendments recently started
appearing at all levels of government to address the corrupting
influence of money in politics. Most are well-meaning (including
efforts here in Milpitas), but don't cut to the heart of the matter and
reverse the absurd Supreme Court notion that corporations enjoy the same
rights as people under the U. S. Constitution. (See
http://movetoamend.org/other-amendments )

The MoveToAmend.org folks, however, are promoting a Constitutional
Amendment that will clearly establish that money is not speech,
corporations are not people, and allows for no loopholes. It will put
people in charge of our government, and corporations in their proper
place. After two years listening and organizing at the grassroots level,
Move To Amend just released the final Amendment wording and presented
their strategy to get it passed. Here is the 7-minute audio roll-out
from the Thom Hartmann Program: electric-bikes.com/amend.mp3

Our country is ready for a change that is bold and sweeping. If you are
too, check the ways to get involved at movetoamend.org/get-involved
