[GPSCC-chat] Iran Allegations

I don't know about good evidence, but Wednesday, Oct. 12, Charlie
Rose interviewed John Miller and Roya Hakakian about Iran. "Hakakian is
an Iranian-American poet, journalist and writer living in the United
States. A lauded Persian poet turned television producer with programs
like 60 Minutes, Roya became well known for her memoir, Journey from the
Land of No in 2004. Her essays on Iranian issues appear in the New York
Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and on NPR. Awarded
a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2008, Roya published Assassins of the
Turquoise Palace in 2011, a non-fiction account of the Mykonos
restaurant assassinations of Iranian opposition leaders in Berlin" in 1992.
Conclusion: I think it is naive to say that people in the
Iranian government would not do such a thing. There is clearly evidence
that they have. (I think it is also naive to suggest that the US
government would not be capable of fabricating evidence for Kakaian to
cite in her book.) I think the US reaction should be to strengthen the
rule of international law. Unfortunately, the most likely result of
this is to strengthen the hands of hawks who insist that the US
government should be exempt from international law.
