Yesterday the web site had a quote from an Iranian leader
who postulated that the timing of the announcement is an
attempt to divert attention from the protests.

Today, at the english language iranian web site

What remains to be seen is whether the US will impose sanctions
or at least mull imposing sanctions on European airlines like Lufthansa
or KLM or the like for their role in this so-called "attempted 
assassination"
for being connection flight carriers as no Iranian airline conducts 
flights to
any US destination!

Turning back to the topic, the US says its sanctions target Iran's 
government
companies and not civilians. It put the name of the state run Iran Air 
down on its
sanction list five months ago and pressured the International Air Transport
Association (IATA) to halt business with the airline recently. It is yet 
to answer
however why it has included the privately owned Mahan Air on its list 
and who
should care about the airline's more than 48000 /civilian/ Hadj pilgrims 
this year!
