[GPSCC-chat] Request for Agenda Items for October 27 Meeting

Hi, Valerie, et al.:

Could Merriam and I have 10 minutes to discuss Occupy San Jose?
I believe the current international Occupy movement is the most hopeful
thing in world history since the "Bonus Army" camped outside Washington,
DC, in 1932. The attempted suppression of their "Hooverville"
contributed to a landslide defeat of conservative incumbents in the next
several elections. The policies of Franklin Roosevelt and others
elected during that period created what is probably the the best period
in US history of relatively high and broadly shared economic growth.

At Occupy San Jose, there have been arrests virtually every night
for most of the past week. They could use a lot of help from people
contacting City Council members, especially San Jose residents --
minimum by email but it's better if you can follow an email with an
attempt to get on the City Council person's agenda to discuss. Anyone
doing this must be clear that they are doing this on their own
initiative and NOT in any way representing Occupy San Jose. Merriam and
I have been working with Steve Preminger of the Central Labor Council
and the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee to try to get
permission from San Jose First United Methodists, who own a vacant lot
across from City Council. We'd like approval from the Green Party to
pay for some or all of the incremental insurance the the Methodists want
if they allow this group to occupy their vacant lot.

Also, I'd like 5 minutes to discuss the "Four Puppet Politics"
bookmark I put on the Resources page some time ago. I've been producing
and distributing them, but I think I should get official group input on
the content before we use it a whole lot more. (This is a summary of an
18-page research paper by that title that I do not want to post on the
Internet but am happy to distribute to anyone who would like to see it;
please email me if you are interested.) In the proposal for another
action at Bank of America (or Wells Fargo?), I'd like to use this "Four
Puppets" bookmark with our "Credit Cards and the Great Recession"
trifold with the Green Party information replaced by information on
Occupy San Jose.

       Thanks,
       Best Wishes,
       Spencer
