[GPSCC-chat] Holiday Peace Fair 2013

After thinking that we had made early arrangements for having the
2013 Holiday Peace Fair at the Campbell United Methodist Church,
with the Church and Society Committee sponsoring it, we were not
able to get confirmation from the church office staff for the first
Saturday
in December (12/7).

Now there has been a change of plans, The church staff and many
members are making plans for celebrating the 125th anniversary of
the CUMC founding, with quite a bit of activity focused on children
on that first December Saturday -- more than is usually done on that
Sunday.

The result is that we have just heard that if we want to have the
HPF at CUMC, it will need to be on Saturday, December 14.
It is likely that the church would prefer that we switch to the second
Saturday in the future as well, because of preparation for activities on the
first Sunday of the Advent season. The second Saturday of December
2014 is 12/13.

Checking other possible dates, I found that Thanksgiving 2013 is as late
in November as it can be, so November 30 is during Thanksgiving weekend.
In 2014, Saturday, November 29th is also during Thanksgiving weekend.

In case you wonder, as I did -- Hanukkah 2013 is unusually early -- it
begins
in the evening of Wednesday, November 27 and ends in the evening of
Thursday, December 5. 2014: December 16-24
So at least for those two years, the second Saturday of December will
not be
during Hanukkah.

I have checked on the Willow Glen United Methodist Church because we
had the HPF there in 2011, although we have preferred the CUMC because
there is more indoor space, parking, etc. As of now, there is nothing on
the
calendar at WGUMC for December 7, 2013 -- and the Office and Facilities
Manager does not know of anything being considered. The church does not
seem to use the hall on Saturdays, according to the next six months of
their
website calendar of church activities.

PLEASE respond quickly re whether the second Saturday of December will be
OK with your group so that we can have the HPF at the Campbell UMC.

If people strongly want to stay with the traditional first Saturday, I
will start
making arrangements with Willow Glen UMC unless someone has a better
suggestion SOON. (It requires a larger hall than many otherwise good
locations have to offer.) Please send a message or call me ASAP if you
will
help with finding a place!
