Lester Brown is very clear. Started Earth Policy Institute.
Andrew Hardie's book "The Hope" to blend morality and spirituality with
environmental concerns. Today, people are much more aware and concerned
about the environment than a few years ago. 350.org seems to be
providing the best leadership she knows in this area. We need to help
everyone. Sister Santussika is with Theravadan Buddhism. Buddhist
Global Relief tries to help the poorest of the poor. If we educate
women and girls, we will stabilize population growth and ... .
Suggestions:
* 350.org has the clearest mission statement and list of
activities: Tar sands resistance,
* Divestment (need a petition for the City of San José):
campaigns.gofossilfree.org has a petition. Calpers has been big into
divestment.
* Stay focused on undermining the fossil fuel industry.
Plastic bags, light bulbs, etc.: "Do the math": If we don't control
the fossil fuel industry, nothing else will matter. Otherwise, we spend
all our time spin our wheels off the track.

Warner: Nova last month on the geological development of Australia (and
the entire planet). We are not even an instant from a geological
perspective.
Gerry, Dana,
Caroline:
Spencer:
Andrea: "Think City EV"
Sandy: Mobile home rent control in San José; sequester in housing
authority; "March to heal the valley" from San José to Google and Apple
in the fall to stop funding evil and start paying taxes.

Sandy: Caroline held a committee meeting to organize an event at
Seven Trees Community Center. Working with SIREN. Friday, September 6,
6:30 - 9 PM. SIREN suggested have the community speak first. Last 2
weeks before the event, we want to do some phone banking. Caroline has
been having phone banking at her house every Tuesday at least through
the end of July. If anyone feels like phone banking for our health care
event, please contact Caroline.

Caroline is looking for a place to table. Gay Pride (August 17 &
18, noon to 7 PM; but in the past they've wanted too much $)

IRV was authorized by a proposition passed in Santa Clara County
in the late 1990s. The current Interim Registrar of Voters could be
very supportive of IRV.

If it gets a 2/3 vote in the Assembly by ~Sept. 13 (and the
Governor signed it), it can become law this year. If it passes by 50%
but less than 2/3, it goes on an initiative.

We already appointed Spencer, Drew and John at the last meeting.
Betsy offered to serve on the SGA. There is a consensus on appointing
Betsy to the SGA.
We should put a call out on the Discuss list for another
volunteer (female for gender balance).

Next plenary may be as early as November. If Santa Clara County
wants to propose changes to the state party bylaws to be considered in
the November plenary, such changes should be discussed in our August
meeting.
We need to find our list administrator and find out if there are
strange subscribers, e.g., two Andrea Doreys. (Is Tian our list nanny?)
This topic should be on the agenda for next month.

> 9:20 (2 min) - Jill Stein in California 9/15-21 (SF->LA)
Jill Stein will be in SF on Sept. 15 and LA in Sept. 21 and may
be available for an event in Santa Clara County on Sept. 16 or 17.
Andrea, Caroline and the Health Care Committee.
