[GPSCC-chat] Move To Amend [snip]/Misinformation

John yes it was the use of the term "disinformation" in regards to our ally, Move To Amend that prompted my concern and thank you for addressing my concern.

I must also say that since I learned about the legal fiction of "corporate personhood" in 1985 taking a class in Jurisprudence at CU Boulder for my undergrad Political Science Degree you are the first and only person I have ever met who defends this concept, a concept which to me and every other person (including many Greens) I've ever heard speak about it is entirely odious.

Green is GO!

I don't know if you are on the SCC Move To Amend General list but the discussion on that list has so far stuck to the facts without denouncing me for making a personal attack or something against Richard Hobbs.  The facts mentioned by Judy Young and others back up my assertion that the case that should have been referred to was the Rbhg case argued before an appellate federal court, not the Supreme Court and not a GMO labeling case before the Supreme Court.  I think that if we in the movement can't develop thicker skins we are doomed to fail, regardless of what happens to people like me. Take care.

>>John when you use hyperbole like "Disinformation" (and right in the title no less) it is indeed a wild allegation and against our allies no less (and many of us are active in Move To Amend. Disinformation is malicious and undertaken to harm so you are alleging
>>our allies are untrustworthy and actively working to harm our community.  On the contrary your posting with wild allegations against our allies is more likely to be misinformation than whatever an ally else actually said since you are no expert on these matters.

>>>This is not a wild allegation.  I had this impression about what was said at the board meeting before doing a web search.  It was my recollection that the Vermont legislative process was stalled when it came to passing a GMO labeling law because they were afraid of being sued, not because they had actually been sued.  I do believe it was Richard Hobbs who spoke at the meeting. All I have done is back up my recollection, imperfect as it may be, with a simple web search.  The article is dated March 2013 so I think it pretty much covers all the bases as far as I'm concerend.  And yes I do expect an expert such as Richard Hobbs to be better versed in the facts, especially in this case. Thank you for your concern.

"disinfomation") about our allied organizations on topics which you have no an expertise based on brief web searches.  David Cobb the co-founder of Move To Amend is our much respected, extremely dynamic Green Party 2004 Presidential nominee, a very good person whom I've spoken to several times in person and a fabulous speaker.  He is one of the most important assets we have in the Green Party and we let's face it -- we don't have an overabundance of assets.  David and Move To Amend deserve benefit of the doubt and we don't need one of us to waste our energy attacking our allies on our party email list.  Please try to maintain our harmonic focus on constructively working in coalition with each other and our allies.

>>>>>Hello,
>>>>>
>>>>>I was at the board meeting of the San Jose Peace and Justice Center a couple of days ago when a rep from Move To Amend stated that the GMO labeling law in Vermont had been struck down by the US Supreme Court on the grounds that corporations have "negative free speech rights" allowing them to not state something on a food label if they so choose. I did an Internet search for any info on this and could only find this article:
>>>>>
>>>>>http://www.alternet.org/food/why-vermonts-governor-peter-shumlin-bowing-monsanto
>>>>>
>>>>>which states that Vermont's governor is bowing to Monsanto because he fears that a GMO labeling law will be struck down just as the rgbh labeling law was struck down, but in fact no such Supreme Court decision has been made, not even in the case of the Rbgh labeling law. Please keep your facts straight when discussing the pros and cons of corporate personhood. Thanks.

>>>>>PS: If such a GMO labeling law were struck down on the basis of negative free speech rights, this could throw out ALL of the requirements that food have ingredient and nutrition labels, which just seems laughable.
