Dear Keystone and Tar Sands Warriors,

Our 350SV No Tar Sands team’s key objective is to provide local grassroots support for the national campaign to Stop the Keystone XL pipeline from being built, and tar sands extraction from expanding. To do this, we need to engage Silicon Valley residents in on-the-ground actions, from rallies and protests to comment drives, to counter big oil’s money and lobbyists with real people’s boots and voices.

Summer is heating up, there are several upcoming events to accelerate our movement’s momentum, and push our government over the edge, into action mode. These events are being planned by the Keystone Action Council, a coalition of Bay Area groups working together against KXL, they need us to jump in and help out.

For each event, we need as many participants as possible of course, but most importantly, we need organizers, to help organize logistics, outreach etc. ARE YOU IN?

Thu. June 6th - Obama fundraiser protest in Palo Alto - This event is on our turf. We are working with 350 National and other local groups to make it as big as the April 3rd SF Obama protest. We want to have over 1,000 people greet the President and demand that he rejects the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

Tue. June 11th - Facebook Shareholder Meeting, Millbrae - Another event close to our turf.
Mark Zuckerberg and other corporate tech millionaires are bankrolling the lobbying group FWD.us that, while pushing for high tech worker immigration reform, is buying TV ads in support of Keystone XL tar sands pipeline and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in an effort to buy votes from the congressmen featured in the ads. We are escalating our call on Zuckerberg to stop from

bankrolling any more pro-fossil fuel industry Keystone XL and drilling ads.

Sat. August 3rd - Chevron Refinery in Richmond - This is the BIG EVENT of the summer, part of the national SUMMER HEAT series of actions to step up public awareness and pressure on the government. Chevron is one of the largest oil companies in the world, it operates the largest refinery in the Bay Area, is a major producer of tar sands in Canada, and it is headquartered in the Bay Area... What’s not to like;-? On Aug 3rd, as part of a coordinated series of events around the country, thousands of protesters will gather in Richmond to tell Chevron to stop trashing the planet: stop producing and refining tar sands, stop lobbying against climate action, leave 80% of its reserves underground.

If you would like to get involved and help organize any of these events:

Join our next No Tar Sands (NTS) team meeting on Saturday 6/1, Details and RSVP here

Contact me or Deborah.

And we hope to see many of you at the potluck this Sunday! Details and RSVP here.

Thanks for all you do, we're going to win this fight!

Pierre
