John...making sure you saw this. To avoid a government shutdown, Democrats and the
Tea Party might "compromise" by cutting Social Security benefits.
This all plays out next week, and we're getting prepared now.
Can we count on you to fight back to protect Social Security? Click here to let us know. We'll send next steps.
Thanks. -- Adam

YESTERDAY'S EMAIL:
John,
The Tea Party in Congress is crazy.
That's not really news. But the fact that they're less than a week from shutting down the government is news.
ABC News reports a tragic potential ending. The "compromise" to end a
government shutdown might be to cut Social Security benefits.
Progressives have worked hard to protect these benefits -- and we're urging
Democrats in Congress to stand strong in the event of a shutdown.
We need to know what kind of army we'll have next week if we're battling to protect Social Security. Are you in?
Yes -- please keep me informed of next steps!
No -- this does not interest me.
ABC News reports: "The president said he
believes there are areas of common ground between the parties on reforms to entitlement programs."
Republicans in Congress said they'll only
accept deep benefit cuts. But we polled red states like Kentucky and
Texas, purple states like Colorado and Iowa, and blue states like Hawaii and California.
Republican, Democratic, and Independent voters oppose cutting Social Security benefits.
If you agree that the Tea Party should be the one making concessions --
not Democrats agreeing to benefit cuts -- click here so we know you're
with us next week.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
