Everything from global warming emissions reductions, to drug safety protections, to fracking safety measures could be at risk. In the name of free trade, the bill known as "Fast Track" would block science's ability to inform policy making on countless issues that deeply effect our health and safety. *Call now and tell Rep. Zoe Lofgren to vote "NO" on the Fast Track bill. * How can you be sure your dinner tonight is safe to eat? Or that the medicine you take won't hurt you? What about the children's toys your family will play with this weekend? If the Fast Track bill passes, it will be much harder for you to be sure you're making safe choices for your family. Multinational corporations such as Koch Industries, GlaxoSmithKline, and Dow Chemical will be able to secretly influence trade deals, avoid public or policy-maker review, and even sue countries that have public health and safety protections in place whenever the corporation feels those protections threaten their profits! Your representative is facing intense pressure from corporations and President Obama to push Fast Track through. *Rep. Lofgren needs to hear from you today that the Fast Track bill puts the health and safety of people in your district at risk. * While international trade is important, there's no excuse for giving corporations a blank check to pursue profit at the expense of our health, safety, and environment?especially when trade steamrolls the role of science and transparency in our democracy. If you are working for a better world, join with thousands of others to learn, connect and plan for our future. For example, learn about the movement for a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that says ?money is not speech? and ?corporations are not people.? At the Thursday morning Peoples Movement Assembly (PMA), we will examine the need for a 28th Amendment, what forces may arise to stop or promote the movement, and what happens after successful passage. See the attached for over 150 workshops and PMAs offered during the days of June 25-27, and follow this link to more information: http://www.ussfsanjose.com/ If you would like to attend any or all days for a minimal fee ($20 or less), please submit your name and contact information by noon on Friday, 6/26 to Gerry Hunt at gwhunt97 at comcast.net or 408-266-0107. -- Rob Means, Education Work Group, Chairman Santa Clara County MoveToAmend, http://scc-mta.org/ 1421 Yellowstone Ave., Milpitas, CA 95035-6913 408-262-0420h, 408-262-8975w, Rob at MeansForDemocracy.org --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The author of that email apparently was unaware that some have been advocating a 1.5C limit. I sent a response, that included some info about the history of the 2C vs. 1.5C struggle. And I thought you might find it (my email) of interest. Gerry -------- Forwarded Message -------- That 1.5C number rang a bell. I remember reading about the need to limit to 1.5C sometime ago, and that some were fighting for it. So I did a search for 1.5C and climate change and I found many relevant articles. Below are just a few. Note that the small island nations are leading the goal of 1.5 C. Not surprising. December 15, 2009 (Copenhagen Conference) "Breaking: A Powerful Appeal from Desmond Tutu" http://350.org/breaking-powerful-appeal-desmond-tutu/ "A global goal of about 2 degrees C is to condemn Africa to incineration and no modern development." The study determined that there is no time for delay as we need to scale up global carbon mitigation and emissions reductions within the next decades. 2. The remaining carbon budget for the 21st century would have to be reduced to half of the currently accepted 2 degrees Celsius limit scenario. 3. Carbon emissions would have to become negative at a global scale at some point this century. How? Through bioenergy use, carbon capture/storage and growing more forests. ============================================= Gerry From barnstorming at movetoamend.org Sat Jun 20 08:31:33 2015 From: barnstorming at movetoamend.org (Move to Amend) Date: Sat, 20 Jun 2015 15:31:33 +0000 Subject: [GPSCC-chat] =?utf-8?q?We=E2=80=99re_touring_with_Neil_Young!?= Message-ID: <558587559e19e_63eefbc7f0101448@worker2.mail> A MESSAGE FROM THE MOVE TO AMEND CAMPAIGN The Campaign to End Corporate Personhood and Demand Real Democracy -=-=- Move to Amend Going On Tour with Neil Young! Yeah, that's right!!! Move to Amend is *thrilled* to announce that we have been invited to join Neil Young on his upcoming tour for his new studio album,?The Monsanto Years. Neil and team have invited 12 non-profits to join his tour to help raise awareness about the corporate takeover of farming and of our food supply, as well as climate change and other environmental issues, and Move to Amend is one of them. We are so honored to join this coalition! Neil has generously donated tickets at each venue to support our efforts, but it will be expensive for us to take advantage of this opportunity -- we need to print tens of thousands of petitions, brochures and other materials; pay for the car, food, and gas for our two volunteers, and make new banners to meet the tour requirements. You can help us be part of this in a number of ways: 1) Purchase tickets to a show -- we're auctioning off the donated tickets to help raise funds. That's right -- you can see Neil Young live in concert, and support Move to Amend at the same time!! And these are great seats! See here for the tour stops to see if we'll be near you... 2) Host our volunteers?-- if you live near the tour stops and have an extra room, our two volunteers would love to stay with you to save us the expense of a hotel. They are a couple, so only one bed needed.?Let us know if you can help by emailing barnstorming at movetoamend.org or calling 707-269-0984. 3) Donate to help us meet the costs. This is such a great opportunity -- help us make the most of it by ensuring that the expenses don't draw down our operating funds. Please make a donation now... 3) Spread the word -- not near a tour city but know someone who is? Please forward them this email and ask them to bid on a ticket or consider being a host. You can't imagine how excited we were to get a call out of the blue a couple weeks ago and find out Neil Young has been following Move to Amend's work. Please help us take advantage of this awesome opportunity! Neil Young challenged us all with his activist anthem, "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" Will you and stand with Move To Amend and Neil? I heard no complaints about the facility or food (there was a little tension over keeping only one item at a time in the electricity outlets). Warner and Caroline were there all day -- starting set up at 7 am and closing out around 3:30 pm (not counting Caroline having to go back because some of Warner's stuff was left out of the pack up -- Thank you Caroline!!!). I heard that Sandy showed up for a bit and Drew also visited for awhile. The new buttons design sold a few. I had three guests; I would be interested in hearing if anyone else did so. More later... This is done through an email list and on-line voting software. The SGA handles various administrative issues -- including event and issues endorsements, Platform Amendments, positions on California initiatives and candidate endorsements for state-wide offices. Like Plenaries, each County GP gets a proportionate number of "Delegates" based on the number of registered Green Party voters in the county compared to statewide registration. As last known, the GPSCC can have up to five SGA delegates. SGA Delegates have a responsibility to read and participate in the email discussions, inform the local County GP of significant discussions and issues, and to cast on-line votes. SGA Delegates are appointed to a one year term running from July 1 to June 30. So... The terms of the GPSCC SGA delegates end tomorrow. If you would like to volunteer to be an SGA delegate, please respond to this list so the appointment can be made at the July GPSCC General Meeting. Warner S.
