I have put that part into bold face and italics text. People/groups involved in the decision would like to work with the SJPJC (perhaps as new members, if not already members) on projects that can accomplish some of the things the HPF was designed to do. One of those was the main subject of the August meeting about the HPF -- namely finding ways to do better outreach to young people about issues of importance to the groups that have participated in the HPF. We have heard from Sharat Lin about* the SJSU campus event early in the fall semesters, where the SJPJC and other organizations offer info to students who may wish to participate through the year. * Several of the groups hope to participate in that next year, since we understand that it has already taken place this year. * *We also have discussed the possibility of an event on one of the local college/university campuses early in the spring semester and would be interested in working with the SJPJC to consider planning such an event for 2016. * * From wrolley at charter.net Wed Sep 9 14:37:24 2015 From: wrolley at charter.net (Wes Rolley) Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2015 14:37:24 -0700 Subject: [GPSCC-chat] Our great gerrymandered assembly Message-ID: <55F0A694.4060904@charter.net> With the current state assembly, I, as well as the rest of Morgan Hill, am in the district of Assembly Member Luis Alejo, from Salinas. Alejo has a long history of not voting when climate bills come up on the floor. In the current week, he did not vote on SB 32. I called his office and told them that Democrats with his lack of courage are one of the reasons I am a Green. In 2016, we expect that there will be at least one Green Party candidate for U. S. Senate in California. As part of qualifying to get their name on the Primary Election ballot, each candidate needs either to pay thousands of dollars or collect 10,000 petition signatures. Even if a candidate does not collect the full number, his or her candidate fee is at least partially reduced. At this time, your County Council members are trying to prepare for the signature gathering period in January by starting to get volunteers to collect signatures (or at least sign a candidate's petition -- or even hold a house party for others to attend and sign a petition). If you are willing to help with any of these, please send an email to Warner Bloomberg at _wb4d23 at aol.com_ (mailto:wb4d23 at aol.com) . We also will need petition signers for candidates for the GPSCC County Council in January and February. We also expect that there will be ballot initiatives that Green Party members will want to support circulated this Fall and Spring. We also need volunteers to become County Council members. The County Council is the small group of volunteers that serves as the local contacts with the Green Party of California, coordinates with local progressive organizations, and serves as the general organizers to keep our county Green Party active. At present, we have four County Council members -- so there are three vacancies that could be filled by appointment for the next nine months. Go Green!!! Here's a message from Vrinda Manglik from the Sierra Club's staff in San Francisco. She's the organizer for an event team that has been very recently launched and they are planning for October 14, the People's Climate Movement's National Day of Action. We in 350 Silicon Valley think that this rally focused on high tech corporations and their employees could be a great warmup to the NorCal Climate Mobilization in the East Bay...we're making the announcement about the 11/21 rally at this10/14 event. Please let your memberships know about this 10/14 event, which may be especially attractive to any who live or work near Google in Mountain View. Traffic can be pretty tough near Google around that time so carpools and biking where possible is suggested. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- from Vrinda... We're organizing a small rally on?Wednesday October 14th, at?4 pm, calling on Silicon Valley tech firms to engage more robustly with the climate movement, as part of the?People's Climate Movement?National Day of Action?and in the lead up to the Paris Climate talks in December.??The?planned?location is Charleston Park Plaza in Mountain View,?next door?to the Googleplex.?? It's being?led by environmental, faith, labor, and youth, with an invitation/opportunity for employees of tech firms (esp. Google, Facebook, and Apple) to participate as well.? Groups committed so far include the Sierra Club, SEIU, Alliance for Climate Education, and TransForm, and we're reaching out to many more.?We expect buses to bring students from local schools including Stanford, Santa Clara University, De Anza college and high schools. The general message, aligned with the People's Climate Movement, is that "to change everything, you need everyone, everywhere" and this means we need tech companies on-board to?go beyond greening their operations and join us in advocating for urgent action?on the climate challenge. ? As with the People's Climate March, our topline message is intended to be "big tent" with a positive tone and call for tech companies like Google to do more to take action on climate change (along the lines of the PCM's motto: "to change everything, we need everyone, everywhere").? This will be the kind of framing we'll do for publicity and in reaching out to reporters.? We also will likely invite speakers from Facebook, Apple and Google to talk about some of what they're doing on climate change (such as signing onto this?White House climate pledge?this past summer). ?We are also inviting all participating groups to feel free bring their own messages. ?????????? We would love for your group to be involved.? Do you think you would be?? ?????????? able to help spread the word and encourage members to attend?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Facebook Page for the event.. https://www.facebook.com/events/1499862160310914/ -- Stew Plock (C)650-815-1372 (H)650-856-0625 stewplock at gmail.com 917 El Cajon Way Palo Alto, Ca 94303 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
