That District is mostly in the E and Cent. portions of San Jose. A link to the map of the district can be found online here but takes a long time to download at 14 B. With important issues regarding the Governor's plan for a pair of hugely costly tunnels as the ":California Water Fix", the makeup of the Water District's Board is especially important. They are being asked to guarantee funding for the tunnels. It would appear that District 6 Director, Tony Estremera, has a conflict of interest in that he is also listed as CoChair of the California Latino Water Caucus, reported by the media as being a greenwashed front organization for the Westlands Water District. I would urge all of you to read a recent story from the NY Times and the editorial from the Mercury News last week. I am suggesting that all of us living within the district boundaries contact our own district directors (mine is John Varela, once a mayor of Morgan Hill. Express the point of view that Estremera should recuse himself from any votes involving the tunnels and how to pay for them while still connected to Westlands PR operations. Those who do live in his district should make sure that their neighbors understand that he is not necessarily acting on their behalf, but has direct ties to very wealthy power players in the CA Water Wars. -- "Anytime you have an opportunity to make things better and you don't, then you are wasting your time on this Earth" - /Roberto Clemente/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I'm writing to invite all of you to the event, which is free and public (with free refreshments). It's a panel discussion, including two Greens from overseas you might enjoy meeting. I'm hoping you can come -- and also spread the word. The first of our two Green panelists is Maria Vassilakou, who is the executive city counicillor of Vienna, Austria. A leading Green politician in Central Europe with a great story (she's a Greek immigrant to Austria), a bright future, and an interesting record, particularly around transit and mobility, in Vienna. They'll be joined on the panel by Palo Alto city manager Jim Keene and David Evan Harris from the Institute for the Future. The panel is about global lessons and examples of efforts to boost public participation and local democracy. Hope to see as many of you there as possible. And very much hoping you can spread the word. Why is this important? Well, we Greens are political activists who are working to overturn the status quo, and bring democracy and liberation to the U.S., yes? Can you think of anything about that that is likely to get us targeted by the U.S. (In)security agencies -- that might get us arbitrarily labeled as "terrorists", "enemies of the state" and such? We know for a certainty that the U.S. government uses a direct tap into Google, Yahoo/Bing/Microsoft, Facebook, as well as forcing them (and any U.S. company and they'll attempt it with foreign companies as well) to turn over any data like I.P. addresses they have in the name of U.S. (in)"security". We know that. So why would any informed Green in their right mind hand all their data to the NSA/FBI/CIA/(insert list of Three Letter Acronyms soup here)? They wouldn't. Well unfortunately these small, ostensibly good search engines do not have their own technology but instead are powered by one of the big, evil search engine companies and share their advertising revenue with them, so "under the hood" you will find Google, Bing or in the case of Ecosia.org, Yahoo/Bing/Micro$oft. That means (without taking precautions) you WILL be fully tracked when you use these ostensibly "good" search engines. Does that not make them no longer good? I would say so.
