This story seems so extreme to me that I feel that I
need to post several versions for credibility's sake.

The sfgate article has an animation of what has
happened to the Arctic ice over the past 20+ years.

==========

"The North Pole is an insane 36 degrees warmer than normal as winter
descends"

"‘Things are getting weird in the polar regions’"

==========

"Temperatures soar, sea ice hits record lows at North and South Poles"

"Arctic sea ice has been on a consistent decline for years. But until
recently, Antarctic sea ice was actually expanding."

"'Climate Emergency': North Pole Sees Record Temps, Melting Ice Despite
Arctic Winter"

"Arctic is losing ice and heating up despite seasonal onset of 24-hour
darkness—phenomena that break all previous records"
