Global Exchange has track record of doing things right. Just check

Now, they are taking action regarding my favorite congressman. I quote
from their recent event notification. <br>

The political eyes of the country are now on the 11th Congressional
<br>
District in California. Bush visited there last week and the RNCC has
<br>
recently dumped funds into the Republican candidates' campaign.
<br>
This Wednesday, into this spotlight we are raising the issue of oil
<br>
money's corrupting influence over our political system. As part of
<br>
Global Exchange's "Independence from Oil" campaign, in particular the
<br>
"Separation of Oil & State" component, we will be asking
Republican
<br>
incumbent Richard Pombo and Democratic challenger Jerry McNerny in the
<br>
11th Congressional District campaign to each sign the Oil Independence
<br>
Pledge to not accept any oil money and to return any they have already
<br>
received. (<a

This will be a media event. We need people to show up to represent
their
<br>
concerns regarding oil's impact on our communities - health,
<br>
sustainability, economy, war, corruption, etc. If you can come, please
<br>
do and please let me know you are coming if you'd like some time to
<br>

We are doing this event during a narrow window of opportunity this

Wednesday, Oct 11th in the early part of the day when we will have a
<br>
Pacific Islander, Ben Namakin from Micronesia, in town. Ben is in the
<br>
U.S. representing the community affected by rising sea levels due to
<br>
global warming. We also plan to have representatives of other
<br>
constituencies, such Iraq Veterans speak to oil/war issues, medical
<br>
professionals on the health impacts, etc..
