I find some of the hysteria about the spray to be just that, hysteria.
While a pheromone is technically a pesticide by EPA definition, it is
not one designed to be poisonous. The facts that I have read belie the
contention that all of these "symptoms" reported following the use on
Santa Cruz / Monterey Counties would have been caused by the same
agent. <br>

For one thing, there is some history of the use of this particular
pheromone formulation in California. In 2005, some 5,900 acres were
treated with it, mostly for dealing with a type of leaf roller that is
a pest for grape vineyards. <br>

As agricultural chemicals go, this is one of the more benign though
inhaling dosages can cause irritation. Think about the use of mercury
based fumigants for soils when you next buy a strawberry.<br>

People look for a cause to protest. When presented with one, there is
a rush to join in, especially as it makes the news. All the while more
serious problems (pharmachemicals in ground water) go unchallenged and
are often ignored though they are much more serious.<br>

It is my feeling that the effort here is too much energy wasted on a
project that is not all that important (comparatively). <br>
