While I admire the sentiment expressed by Environment California, it is
very much like 350.org. There is an urging to action and a total loss
of definition. We need someone to send in the plays and we get the
cheer leaders.<br>

We need concrete actions and we need to tell our Congress Critters what
those actions are:<br>
- no more subsidies for coal. (Green Change has a challenge to shut
down all of America's coal fired power plants.<br>
- changes in building codes in line with the Guidelines from
Architecture 2030.<br>
- no subsidies or guarantees for nuclear power. Transfer that funding
to solar, wind, smart grid. <br>
<br>
You get the message. Generalize excitement and protest is no longer
good enough... besides it is so easy to do you don't have to really
understand anything.<br>
<br>
I believe that it would be much more effective to take action on
specifics. <br>

asking that S. 1462 reflect the same target dates provided in Section
201 of the<br>
<span style="line-height: 190%;">

American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2454).
Architecture 2030 released an in-depth <a
href="http://www.architecture2030.org/news/news_072209.html"
style="color: rgb(29, 94, 155); font-weight: bold;">analysis</a> of
Sec. 201 earlier this year.

The Senate Bill, passed by the Committee on Energy and Natural
Resources, currently includes building energy code updates. To be
effective, however, the timeline for these targets must be amended to
be:<br>
<ul>
<li>30% below the baseline energy code in 2010,</li>
<li>50% below the baseline energy code in 2014-2015, and</li>
<li>5% additional reduction every three years to 2029-2030.</li>
</ul>
These targets and the timeline are achievable, cost effective, and will
<a href="http://www.architecture2030.org/news/news_072209.html"
style="color: rgb(29, 94, 155); font-weight: bold;">dramatically reduce</a>
the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of our nation's
buildings.
