How does the Republican Party get tens of millions of people to vote against their own <br>economic interests and for the interests of the 1%? It's very easy, as Thomas Frank<br>pointed out in "What's the Matter with Kansas?" It's all about the Politics of Indignance. <br><br>Basically, the red-staters are indignant about abortion. Ronald Reagan could have <br>outlawed abortion if he wanted. He had the power. Why didn't he? Because killing <br>abortion would have killed indignance. They're also indignant about a black man in the <br>White House, and Obama's alleged "socialism".<br><br>When Obama is elected, his "socialistic" presidency fuels a Republican indignant <br>uprising to take control of Congress so that Obama can not possibly accomplish<br>anything. (Not that he really wants to accomplish anything contrary to the <br>interests of the 1%.)<br><br>If Romney were elected, he would be expected to demonstrate that "trickle-down"<br>
works (it doesn't), he would be expected to win the war in Afghanistan (he can't),<br>
he would be expected to balance the budget (he won't). He can't run the risk of<br>
being expected to fulfill his impossible promises. <br>
