For more information, or questions related to the topic of the posting, please do not hit reply. Follow the contact directions stated in the email. Announcement/Open for application: Position of GPCA Delegation member (or alternate) to the Green Party of United States National Committee Election at September 8th-9th GPCA General Assembly Applications due July 9th, 2007; send to mailto:applications at cagreens.org Dear GPCA member, The Green Party of California is always looking for interested members to serve at the national level of the Green Party. In particular, with the 2008 election cycle nearly upon us, the next couple of years promise to be a very exciting time on the national level -- and hence a good reason for YOUR participation and input. Currently, the GPCA has 13 Delegate seats and 13 Alternate seats. and all delegation seats were filled at recent May 26th-27th General Assembly in San Francisco. However, Delegate Apportionment has recently changed at the national level, and when all states are officially given their new numbers, our GPCA delegation will increase to 42 members. Some of these extra seats were filled in San Francisco, at least four delegate and up to 40 alternate seat still remain. To fill them, there will be elections by the General Assembly at the GPCA Plenary in Riverside on September 8-9, 2007 for those seats. The job description for these positions is at http://www.cagreens.org/cc/co-cos/job_gpus_delegation.php To apply, you must send your biography/applications in at least 60 days in advance of the September General Assembly for inclusion in the plenary packets, as is specified in our state party bylaws. An editable application (including space for an optional campaign statement) can be found at http://www.cagreens.org/cc/co-cos/application_gpus_delegation.rtf . (Past applications are available for review at http://www.cagreens.org/cc/co-cos/applications_2007/gpus_delegation) PLEASE SEND YOUR APPLICATION BY JULY 9th TO mailto:applications at cagreens.org . It will then go onto a website to be viewed by all. Because the GP-US delegation often makes its own recommendations to GPCA General Assembly delegates about who to choose as National Committee members, we in the GPUS delegation also want to know more about you. We strongly encourage those who self-identify as a minority, whether by region, gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, or disability. So please send a copy of your application to one or both of the delegation co-chairs listed below. We also prefer those who have already been involved on the state and/or county party level. (If you think we may not be familiar with your Green Party activity, please send a referral from a state or county representative.) For more information about the GPCA's delegation to the GPUS, including a roster of current member, you can go to http://www.votegreen.org/gpus-ca. Note also that the GP-US Annual National Meeting will be held in Reading, PA on July 12-15. All Greens are welcome to come as observers to the meeting... even if you are not a delegate. There will also be a variety of workshops. For more information about that important meeting, see www.gpanc.org/ And don't forget that if you are elected now, you have the opportunity to be part of the delegation at the annual meeting occuring during the 2008 Presidential convention. Feel free to contact the Co-Chairs with your questions. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you. Jo Chamberlain and I agreed to fill those posts temporarily while we searched for permanent replacements. Our region consists of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. The current term extends to June 2008. We are seeking qualified individuals who would like to work with the state Coordinating Committee on behalf of our region. The CC is an administrative body that plans and coordinates the activities of the party, and executes decision made by the General Assembly. The committee description from our bylaws is copied below, and a Rep job description can be found at http://cagreens.org/cc/reps.pdf. The job entails mostly email and teleconferences. You must keep up with the online proposals and their discussions, and attend the teleconferences to discuss and vote on the issues. You are also encouraged to involve yourself with the state party by volunteering to be a liaison between the CC and a committee or working group. The time commitment depends on how much you want to put into it. A nominal 2-3 hours a week is probably the base. If you enjoy lengthy email discussions, your time will increase. If you find you enjoy working at the state level, there's plenty of opportunities to put in more time. Lastly, you've all likely heard that the CC has become "dysfunctional." This is mostly true. The CC is at a low point in its history. But, besides the battles that have garnered so much attention, there are a number of decent, hard-working Greens on the CC who are there to serve the Party. And the CC was delivered an unequivocal message at the last state meeting about getting itself together. That message was not lost on most of the CC members. Yes, there still exists the obstructionists who will never change. But there ability to obstruct is waning. If you are interested in the position, please respond to this list. -- Jim Stauffer FROM THE STATE BYLAWS: Section 7-1.
