WHAT ARE _YOUR_ PRIORITIES?

On a 336-87 vote Friday, the Republican-controlled House overwhelmingly backed
a $649 billion defense spending bill that boosts the Defense Department budget
by _$17 billion over this year's appropriation_.

Many Representatives tried to cut the Pentagon budget – by defunding the
Afghanistan war, cutting specific weapons, and voting against the entire bill.
But in the end, the Pentagon was the only government agency that is getting a
double-digit increase at a time when social programs are being slashed.

“The military budget is not on the table,” commented Rep. Barney Frank. “The
military is at the table, and it is eating everybody else’s lunch.”

*The budget process isn’t finished. *Debate on the overall 2012 budget will
continue through the summer.
