Greens to converge in Washington, DC on Oct. 2 at the One Nation Working
Together rally for jobs, justice, education, and peace

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party candidates and activists from across the US will
gather in Washington, DC for the One Nation Working Together march and rally
in Washington, DC on Saturday, October 2 for "Jobs, Justice and Education"

Greens will meet 10:30 am on Saturday at 14th Street and Constitution Avenue
NW on the Mall, at the Peace Table. The Green Party will be part of the Peace
Contingent (http://www.onenationforpeace.org), which calls the rally "an
opportunity to help millions of people understand how the struggle to end the
wars and occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq is directly tied to the urgent
need to re-direct this nation’s economic and social priorities."

The One Nation Working Together rally takes place under the shadow of the FBI
raids targeting antiwar activists in Minneapolis and Chicago on Sept. 24.
Dozens of peace, human rights, and other advocacy groups, including the Green
Party (http://www.gp.org/press/pr-national.php?ID=352), condemned the raids
part of an effort to intimidate critics of the Obama Administration's foreign
policies in the Middle East and Colombia, as well as the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan.

"The FBI made our case for us on Sept. 24, that it's time for people to unite
and demand jobs, justice, education, and peace. We won't tolerate the
politics of war, fear, and lawlessness any longer. Real change is putting
people first. We must demand a Green New Deal for America," said Colia Clark,
Green Party candidate for the US Senate in New York (http://www.coliaclark.org).

Greens in North Carolina have arranged for a bus from Greenway Transit
(http://www.greenwayrides.com) that runs on biodiesel fuel to transport
participants to Washington on Oct. 2. Members of the DC Statehood Green Party
will host visiting Greens and friends coming from out of town.

The Green Party of the United States endorsed the Oct. 2 event in a vote by
the party's national committee on Sept. 12
(http://www.gp.org/press/pr-national.php?ID=347). Theresa El-Amin, national
co-chair of the Green Party, serves as the party's representative on the
national steering committee of One Nation Working Together. The Green Party's
liaison to the Peace Table is George Martin, Wisconsin Green, member of the
Green Party Black Caucus, and former national co-chair of United for Peace &
Justice.
