I has found an interesting new wrinkle to the Pombo Story.  He is a high ranking 
(seniority) member of a group labeled the Republican Study Committee, a source 
of much of the House Republican Legislative poop.  He is also on the Agriculture 
Committee. The post discusses the cuts in the Federal budget that the 
Agriculture Committee pushed for inclusion in the recent Budget Reconciliation 
Bill.  These did not make sense for a congressman who draws significant support 
from a rural, agricultural constituency.
