The list of those who have been impeached during the history of the 
United States includes
: 1 Supreme Court Justice (Chase),
 2 Presidents (Andrew Johnson and Clinton),
1 Senator,
1 Cabinet Officer (*William W. Belknap,* secretary of war; acquitted 
Aug. 1, 1876. charged with accepting a money for a military appointment),
and 11 other federal judges.
So, it seems that there is a precedent for the impeachment of a cabinet 
officer.
