The Department of Energy wants to design and build a new generation of
nuclear weapons in new facilities across the country.
ANA http://www.ananuclear.org/
is fighting DOE’s “Complex 2030” plan and working to make sure that DOE
cleans up the contamination from Cold War production of nukes.

Here is an extract from an email notice from Physicians for Social
Responsibility:

The Bush Administration has selected your state as a possible site for a
new $5 billion to $10 billion facility to build the next generation of
nuclear weapons.

Some local leaders in your area are already arguing that this new plant
will create jobs and spur economic development.

The U.S. can create jobs without building the next generation of nuclear
weapons that would escalate the arms race and pose a greater threat to
our planet.

The U.S. government has moral and legal obligations to eliminate its
nuclear weapons, not build new ones.

Over the next few weeks, the Energy Department will hold public hearings
in your state to discuss plans for this new bomb plant, assess public
reaction, and build political support for these proposals.

Physicians for Social Responsibility has a fact sheet on this topic
