[Sosfbay-discuss] Gates confirmation hearings

The confirmation hearings for Secretary of Defense nominee Robert Gates
will begin on December 5.

After only 93 legislative days this year for which they have been paid 
$163,000 each in salary or more, Congress failed to “write the checks” 
for all government services, except the services that use guns and 
spying. In the last year, Congress has finished only two of the 11 
funding bills that set spending levels for the federal government. Now 
Congress has decided not to finish the remaining 9 spending bills. 
Instead, Congress will meet for just one week in early December and then 
adjourn.
