PRESS CONFERENCE:  SAVEBAREC REFERENDUM VICTORY
JULY 27, 2007, 12:30 PM, SANTA CLARA CITY HALL, 
1500 WARBURTON  AVENUE, SANTA CLARA, CA

On July 25, 2007, the Santa Clara City Clerk informed  SaveBAREC that the 
Santa Clara County Office of the Registrar of Voters  validated the required 
signatures for both the Rezoning and the General Plan  Amendment petitions 
submitted on July 18, 2007.
 
The final validated signature count is as follows:  

Rezoning Referendum Petition: 5,157 valid signatures (3,949  needed)
General Plan Amendment Referendum Petition: 5,027 valid signatures  (3,949 
needed)
 
Based on the past five years of working within our  community, we were 
confident that the citizens of the City of Santa Clara  would support the referendum 
process to place these critical decisions on the  ballot.
 
SaveBAREC used the democratic referendum process to suspend  the Santa Clara 
City Council’s decisions.  
 
At the next regularly scheduled Council meeting, August 21,  2007, the City 
Council will have the opportunity to rescind the resolutions  they approved, 
saving the City of Santa Clara over $100,000 in ballot  costs,  placing BAREC on 
the February ballot, or having a special  election.
 
The process determining BAREC’s future is now in the voter’s  hands.
