Green Party of California endorses mass protests Saturday
across the nation, and the state against Prop. 8, says
it rejects legislation that legalizes a ‘hate crime'

SACRAMENTO – The Green Party of California endorsed mass, worldwide
demonstrations this Saturday (November 15) in every state in the nation,
including California, protesting the passage of Proposition 8, California's
anti-gay marriage amendment, as well as other anti-gay ballot initiatives
in Arkansas, Arizona and Florida.

More than 1 million people are expected to participate. In California,
demonstrations are being planned in at least 65 cities, including
Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Oakland/Berkeley,
Fresno, Long Beach and Bakersfield, according to JoinTheImpact.com, which
is organizing the national protests.

Protests are planned to be simultaneous, starting nationwide at 10:30 a.m.
(1:30 p.m EST.).

"The Green Party of California very strongly opposed Proposition 8. We
fully support the freedom to marry, and all the rights, benefits and
responsibilities without discrimination based on sex, gender or sexual
orientation. We oppose any legislation that, as Prop. 8 does, legalizes
this form of a hate crime," said the GPCA in a statement Friday.

"We want to plant the seed of change and community (and) not let anger
steer the conversation," said JoinTheImpact.com, adding that the protests
are meant to encourage the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer (LGBTQ)
community to fight back in a show of national unity against these
initiatives in a "respectful manner."
