   I try to avoid careless rhetoric about retribution, which was one of the
ugliest excesses of the 60's movement.

   Even so, I'd suggest that it might be appropriate that Ms. Rice prove her 
claim that waterboarding is not torture by undergoing it herself.  I will offer
$500 if Ms. Rice can undergo 30 minutes of waterboarding without renouncing 
her claim that waterboarding is not torture.
