   Bikes make DHS types nervous because their hollow structures make an excellent place to conceal explosives and their ubiquity and people's tendency to park them casually make them hard to control.  A few years ago the Amtrak police, in cooperation with Palo Alto and Menlo Park police, went on a bolt-cutter rampage impounding stray bikes in a region extending several blocks from the railroad tracks.
