I consider this to be an illustrative example of the kind of
work that needs to be done by the Green Party. Not
specifically the items in the article, but rather gathering input
and bringing it to bear on decision making in the political
process.

COALITION for Justice and Accountability RELEASES
“COMMUNITY CHECKLIST” FOR SELECTION OF NEXT SAN
JOSE POLICE CHIEF BASED ON EXTENSIVE MULTI-LINGUAL
SURVEY OF 3,000 RESIDENTS

San Jose, CA – As the City of San Jose goes into the final stages of
selecting the next San Jose Police Chief, the Coalition for Justice and
Accountability releases the findings of an extensive four-month
community input gathering project. The report offers a clear and
measurable criteria set for the selection process, and is based on a
large pool of quantitative data. The effort included survey collection
of 3,000 hand-filled surveys, conducted in English, Spanish and V
ietnamese, seven community forums which involved over 1,300 residents,
and a unique video project called “Message to the Next Police Chief”
where residents shared their thoughts to the City. The research culminated
in a “Community Checklist,” comprised of six requirements that were based
on survey responses, and echoed in forums and personal testimonies, and
can be used as a criteria for City to base their final selection.
