Last year Dr. Lin gave an excellent talk on his personal observation of the Arab Spring
events in Egypt. He just visited again and has an update report. Please circulate this invitation widely.
Nonviolence in the Egyptian Revolution
The popular uprising in
Egypt has unleashed a revolutionary process in which the military,
business elites, workers, secular youth, and advocates of political
Islam have stakes. The roots of the uprising provide critical clues to
prospects for democratic reforms, economic changes and the struggles
that lie ahead. Does the Egyptian experience provide new role models for nonviolent protest, "leaderless" movements, and new media?
Dr. Sharat G. Lin is president of the San Jose Peace and Justice Center. He writes on global political economy, the Middle East, labor migration, and public health, and has lived for many years
in the Arab Middle East, and most recently has witnessed the Egyptian
Revolution before, during, and after the initial uprising.
