In a different context - the thread re county council - Drew wrote

It helps connect us with our base. That's a good thing.'

Signature gathering is time consuming if done door to door but it is very
rewarding to both the gatherer and the signer.

Katherine Bock also said something to that effect at last Thursday's 
meeting.
