[GPSCC-chat] FW: Inappropriate Anti- Chavez on Green discuss

I agree that everyone deserves the presumption of courtesy--including Lush Rimbaud,
as long as he restricts himself to courteously expressing opinions.

Some people IMHO forfeit their presumptive courtesy. Unrepentant criminals, such as
Karl Rove and Condi Rice and Nancy Pelosi and George Bush and Barack Obama, do not
deserve courtesy. They deserve to be loudly denounced wherever they go until they
repent of their crimes.

William Rodriguez, the 9/11 fraudster who travels around the world with a hero story
he stole from a true hero who died on 9/11, deserves no courtesy.

Internet bullies who persistently pursue tactics of intimidation and lies and libel deserve
no courtesy. Jesus tells us "unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the
other" but it doesn't take very long before you run out of cheeks, and Jesus doesn't say
what you do then.

Responding in kind has the unfortunate effect of shortening your fuse, but knuckling under
to bullies is worse because it kills your soul.

Everybody--even Rush Limbaugh--deserves our courtesy. Discourtesy is a reflection on the perpetrator, not the target.

I have had the privilege to meet Paul Engstrom in my work with Move to Amend and
the California Clean Money campaign. He is a long-time activist and a great guy and
if, like a lot of us over 50, his keyboard challenges him a bit by the end of the afternoon,
so be it.

He deserves respect and courtesy--and gratitude for all he's done over the decades--from
all of us.

I am not experienced enough on this list to know what is appropriate to it or not. But since the issue of Cindy Chavez was raised, I believe it is important to respond. Cindy was one of the key leaders to support the increase of San Jose's minimum wage to $10 an hour, as well as a supporter many other key issues to the lives of working people, including health care and immigrant rights. She has only one serious opponent, Teresa Alvarado. Unfortunately, Ms. Alvarado has aligned herself with the Mayor, every other anti-union politician in San Jose, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Republican Party. It is true that Cindy has sent out a lot of mailers, but perhaps it is because she feels it is necessary to respond to the DAILY slams against her that appear in the Mercury News and Metro. These two papers have open contempt for the poor and those who work for a living - both had the nerve to OPPOSE increasing the minimum wage, as they apparently
preferred to see the people who serve them in restaurants and clean their homes go hungry and homeless.

I do not agree with Cindy on many issues - she is far too "Democratic Party" for my taste. But I disagree with allying with the right which is trying to block election of a pro-union person to the Board of Supervisors. Where there is a good Green alternative, I am fine with rejecting the lesser of two evils. But this not the case in this campaign, so I have put a Cindy Chavez sign in my front yard.

If you are going to critique free speech, at least take the time to spell correctly and make complete sentences.
