All,

Big news yesterday on BayCAP!  I know Janet has already shared the news with this list, but I wanted to also share some of the reactions from other folks in the email chain below, and provide some perspective for those who are not familiar with BayCAP.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) is the agency responsible for regulating air pollution from stationary sources in the Bay Area, including refineries and other industries. This includes greenhouse gases. The BayCAP resolution submitted to the Air District by Janet and her team is a commitment by the Air District to develop a Bay Area Regional Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Plan to achieve the GHG reductions we need by 2050. The Bay Area emits 100 millions tons of GHGs per year, the equivalent of a small wealthy nation. This gives us an opportunity to lead on climate protection in California and in the nation. This vote is a big deal, the next step is to get this committee decision voted on by the whole board.

We will be hosting an information and discussion meeting with Janet in November for anyone interested to help out, for example by meeting with the Air District board members from Silicon Valley, stay tuned!

Congratulations to Janet and the 350 Bay Area BayCAP team!!!

Pierre

Our cause would have been a much lonelier and more difficult effort without his steady leadership. Behind the scenes, Board Chair Ash Kalra also provided significant help. It mattered enough to him he attended the meeting as well.
>>>The Resolution with our amendments and some additional ones will go to the full Board in two weeks, November 6th. Director Susan Adams of Marin told us she specifically wants our input for the additional amendments.
