2011 Day of Remembrance
Fighting Against Fear
The 31st Annual San Jose Day of Remembrance will held next month.

Sunday, February 20, 2011
5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin
640 N. Fifth Street, San Jose

During the past year, threats of Koran burnings and heightened tensions
between the Justice Department and Muslim American cvil rights organizations
have direct parallels with the experience of Japanese Americans during
World War II. The 2011 Day of Remembrance theme “Fighting Against Fear” will
address what Japanese Americans had to endure during World War II and what
Arabs, Muslim and South Asian Americans face today. The event aims to
bring different communities together in order to build trust, respect and
understanding among all people and to renew our pledge to fight for equality,
justice and peace.

This year's DOR will feature a remembrance by Jimi Yamaichi, Curator of
the Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMsj), a talk by Zahra Billoo,
Executive Director of Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a
performance by San Jose Taiko, and the traditional candlelight procession through
San Jose Nihonmachi.
Event is free and open to the public. For more information, go to the
_NOC website_ (http://www.sjnoc.org/) or call 408-505-1186
