Can we as SC County Greens support AB 1358?
On first blush, it looks like a good plan to cut emissions by
allowing greener traffic modes.
Please advise! This might be a time that AARP is actually being useful!

> On behalf of AARP California call Governor Schwarzenegger at
> 916-445-2841 and express your strong support for Assembly Bill
> 1358, the Complete Streets Act.
>
> AB 1358 requires local government to identify how the jurisdiction
> will provide for the routine accommodation of all users of the
> roadway including motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, individuals
> with disabilities, seniors, and users of public transportation.
>
> AB 1358 will help local governments give their residents better and
> healthier lives by talking about accommodating all users of the
> roadway. Consider the following:
>
> Enacting the Complete Streets Act complements Gov. Schwarzenegger's
> groundbreaking initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in
> California by improving conditions that enable people to travel by
> bicycle, on foot or by public transit.
> Streets designed to accommodate all users benefit the public health
> by encouraging more people to choose active transportation modes
> like bicycling and walking.
> California will be the first state in the nation to embrace
> Complete Streets principles for all local streets and roadways.
> AB 1358 will make our roads safer and more convenient places for
> Californians who choose to walk, ride a bike, or take transit.
> Safer roads enable more people to gain the health benefits of
> choosing an active form of transportation, and benefit everyone by
> reducing traffic congestion, auto-related air pollution, and the
> production of climate-changing greenhouse gases.
