Jim and Cameron, I'm not sure which one of you is our GPSCC
Treasurer. However, if we have $400 or more, I suggest that we
contribute $100 or more to Neptun's campaign.
Up for discussion:

Dear IC members: I find that I must withdraw as the Lavender Caucus
representative to the International Committee. From my initial
contrariness and grumpiness over the many PhDs listed on the website and
complaining about an over abundance of postings; I have grown to respect
both the intellect and the depth of commitment of all our members on the
International Committee.
The San Diego Renters Union and the San Diego Bus Riders Union have
asked me to be their candidate for Mayor of San Diego in the 2012
election. Although the position is supposed to be non-partisan, the
Republican and Democratic Parties routinely dump hundreds of thousands
of dollars into the race - there has been only one Democratic Mayor
since the early 1900's. With the support of the local Green Party and my
many friends in the Peace and Freedom Party, I hope to challenge the
oligarchy which has controlled this city for over one hundred years.
We will be agitating for rent control, free public transportation,
citizen ownership of the crooked Sempra Corporation's San Diego Gas and
Electric, a living wage for all who work, global warming efforts of
mandatory green building and a mitigation fee on every vehicle in the
city (to pay for free public transport), affordable housing land trusts,
neighborhood credit unions and cooperative buying associations - and,
most importantly, the decentralization of city government into
neighborhood councils, with the budgetary process beginning in
the communities and working its way up, rather than dictated by downtown
politicians and their lobbyists.
San Diego is a city rapidly gentrifying everyday. Thousands of working
and middle-class families are being forced out because the city has the
highest cost of living ratio to wages of any city in the nation. Rent
costs have been steadily increasing; 50 seniors a month hit city streets
homeless while there are 2,000 evictions a month because families cannot
pay the landlord's extortion. Libraries are being closed, parks not
maintained, fire and rescue response times are growing, roads and sewage
drains are deteriorating,; yet, the oligarchy which controls this city
are building a boat dock that will only birth million dollar yachts and
are proposing a football stadium downtown with public funds.
As a former elected Green - the San Diego Mid-City Planning Board - I
have participated in face to face government at the neighborhood level.
This is truly participatory democracy where lobbyists bribes and
campaign contributions by powerful developers can't be hidden, where we
live in the neighborhood and have a stake in every aspect of its
governance, where as neighbors, homeowners and renters, cooperation,
rather than competition, is the rule.
We have only raised $21,000 for the campaign so far but still have 20
months to go. However, the corporate media here, in the U.S.'s ninth
largest city, have obviously been unkind to challengers of the status
quo, so we need to take our message to the neighborhoods and streets.
There are almost 3,541 registered Greens in San Diego, another 1,390
members of the Peace and Freedom Party and a whopping 150,489
independents...it is those votes we seek, in addition to organizing a
registration drive.
My website, rocky4sandiegomayor.org <http://rocky4sandiegomayor.org>, is
not up yet but will be by the first of the year. I have sent a copy of
this to the Lavender Greens. Please keep me on your e-mail list so I can
keep up with the wonderful work you do. Thank you.
In peace and love, Rocky Neptun
