I've been through various experiments in saving toilet water, and after many
sub-optimal experiences I have arrived at a sustainable protocol that I believe 
saves me 80--100 gallons a week,

I piss in a bottle.  I use a wide-mouth Tide detergent bottle from which I have 
removed the plastic center spout.  Smaller-mouth bottles tend to inoculate mens'
privates with ammoniacal bacteria, and that's not a good thing.  

When the bottle is full I can pour it down the shower drain if I'm about to have
a shower, else I'll pour it in the toilet and flush it away.
