[GPSCC-chat] Karl Rove Wants You to Vote for Obama

How does the Republican Party get tens of millions of people to vote against their own
economic interests and for the interests of the 1%? It's very easy, as Thomas Frank
pointed out in "What's the Matter with Kansas?" It's all about the Politics of Indignance.

Basically, the red-staters are indignant about abortion. Ronald Reagan could have
outlawed abortion if he wanted. He had the power. Why didn't he? Because killing
abortion would have killed indignance. They're also indignant about a black man in the
White House, and Obama's alleged "socialism".

When Obama is elected, his "socialistic" presidency fuels a Republican indignant
uprising to take control of Congress so that Obama can not possibly accomplish
anything. (Not that he really wants to accomplish anything contrary to the
interests of the 1%.)

If Romney were elected, he would be expected to demonstrate that "trickle-down"

works (it doesn't), he would be expected to win the war in Afghanistan (he can't),

he would be expected to balance the budget (he won't). He can't run the risk of

being expected to fulfill his impossible promises.
